So you guys should all head over to the December post and start reading!
Please keep in mind, this is only chapter 1-3, plus a preface. There will be links to the other chapters there that will not work since those entries are still private. The rest of December will be posted on the 7th of September and the rest of the posting will continue on for Fridays. The schedule is here.
Go to the website this weekend for more extra bits about writing this section and the additional short story from the two book edition.
I hope I’ve done a good job. Sequels are hard to gauge and rarely as good as the first, but they can at least be fun. Thank you everyone for so much support recently - I really and truly appreciate it. I’m probably going to hide and be quite busy for a while since my school and teaching is starting, but I will reply to emails and comments when I have time. If needed: evelyndeshane(at)gmail(dot)com or veganfoxtrot(at)hotmail(dot)com are where you can reach me.
If you see any errors that myself or Jules (the wonderful woman reading this all over) missed, please let me know! :)
Thank you and enjoy! :)
Question. On the Lulu site for both colorful cover editions of the dove keeper it says "book 1" and "book 2". Why is that? Is the full book not in one of them or is it something extra? And what about the black cover with the hand-print?
I wanted to release a copy that had bigger font, since the first book was super tiny. In order to do that, I needed to break it up into two books because lulu has a page restriction (740). The one with the black background and handprint is a smaller font than book one and book two.
This post explains it more.
New Covers!
Here is the condensed version of the previous update. :)

More updates!
So, you all should go and check out the website again for more posts. I’ve been updating with batches of posts every few weeks and right now there is a lot there. I want to keep updating with little anecdotes and character references as I post the sequel, so be sure to keep checking there. You can subscribe by email, too! :)
Right now I want to draw your attention to the fact that I’ve FINALLY done the new covers I said I was going to do ages ago. Mely helped me out with this task in particular and I’m very grateful for that. The two book set of the story has the extra short story from Gerard/Bernard’s point of view in it and I will update the website with that story the Sunday after I begin posting the sequel. You can buy the book in the new painted cover version or the two book set.
There is also an online store that’s been set up, and I have a post about some of the products on the website, too!
That was a lot of texts and a lot of links. I just want to say thank you so much again to everyone who has been helping me and I will do my best to answer my emails in the next little while. I’m going to be going back to teaching soon, so I may drop off the radar for a little bit, but I promise the book will be updated. :)
A few more things!
Here is a posting schedule for The Rainbow.
The more intricate details of how long the book is, how it’s divided, etc, are written in that google doc, but the basic premise is: I want this book done as fast as I can. The entire posting schedule will be from September-December. That’s a relatively short period of time for something as long as the initial TDK. But I want to get it done. :)
Ideally, I will have the book version ready in September for people to buy if they don’t want to wait, but that could be as late as October. Right now I’m working with a very wonderful person who’s helping me edit. She has given me back 4/10 sections and they are all going to be proofed again by me soon. Then names subbed in (because yes, I’ll keep it as Frank/Gerard for posting), then html and other images and whatnot added in. This part is tedious and takes the longest, so that’s why the posting is scattered the way it is.
If there are any changes to the dates, I will edit the google doc and let everyone know, but I don’t anticpate any changes. I want this posted as much as you probably want it all, too. :)
And finally, the website!
I’m still working on some additional entries there, but for the most part, there is enough content that I’m okay with people seeing it. This tumblr is still going to be where writing updates are. This website, however, is more about side stories, images, and other things related to the story itself. I’ve posted character references (one and two), and an interview that someone sent me. I’m sort of looking at this project as the second DVD of a movie, where all the special features are. If there is anything else you want to see there, though, please let me know!
If The Dove Keeper was to ever become a movie, do you have any ideas of who you would want to play the roles? I personally think Alan Cumming could play the role of Bernard really well because he is already gay, and comfortable being naked and stuff. :3 To me, he just comes off as a good Bernard.
That’s a really good pick! Alan is skinny though, and I have this idea of Bernard/Gerard being bigger than that. Not necessarily fat, but a bigger stance/bone structure? I’ve always really liked the actor Anthony Paglia for an older Bernard-like character, but I really like this pick too because Cumming deserves more publicity.
50 shades of grey was originally a twilight fanfiction. Although TDK is very different from 50sog, would you want your book to be published and get as much publicity as 50 shades of grey?
Haha, this week people keep telling me about 50 Shades and saying I should do the same thing. I admit when I first heard it was fan fic I laughed and thought of my story… but I don’t know if it could reach the audience that 50 Shades does. The audience base is completely different (50 Shades is “Mommy Porn” and this is more like teen and twenty-something, bandom fun, I guess?). To a certain degree, I’m already completely floored by how much attention TDK has. I virtually never look at the hashtag for the story and I tell very few people irl. If TDK got to the level of publicity as 50 Shades, I’d probably explode with anxiety, hahaha.
Thank you to Gabi for making this poster for me. :)

I’m currently working on getting together a large print edition of the book, since I know that the tiny font size can be an issue for some people. However, since Lulu.com only allows a certain limit of pages for a book (I believe the cut-off is around 700 or 800), it becomes difficult to do a…
will those extra’s be available online too for the people who bought the small print edition?
Yes. I will post the extras on the website I’m working on after the large print edition has been out for a week or so.
Would it be difficult to change the names back to Frank and Gerard when its posted? Only because I think it might be easier to read it (as a sequel) with those names since I read it as a Frerard rather than the published book. (sorry I don't mean to sound whiny i'm just curious) I'm really excited for the book by the way, it's been too long and so curious to find out what happens XD
If anyone else wants me to post the sequel with Frank/Gerard instead of Thomas/Bernard, comment on this ask. Some parts may be a bit disjointed because of it, but not too much. The book on lulu.com, however, will stay with Bernard/Thomas.
